Little Dogs That Think Like Big Dogs

Owners of small dogs know that their little canines can be quite feisty at times. Whether it’s barking at all the other dogs and people that approach their master or territory, or just acting tough all the time, a lot of small dogs can act like they’re much larger. For those canines that just lack height and size to be the top dog, make sure to purchase raised dog beds for the home. Small dogs love to feel taller so they can sit down and survey all that is happening around them. Raised dog beds are also great for keeping small dogs from sleeping on the carpet and getting their fur all over the floor. For small dogs that like to climb up on their master’s bed, a raised dog bed can provide them the means to feel tall without dirtying the covers and sheets.

All small dogs will love their raised dog beds. These beds can also help small dogs with their confidence, for those that might be a little more shy.

Cool Canines on Hot Summer Days

What pet owner hasn’t seen their dog just sitting around and panting on hot summer days? The fact is, dogs are much more vulnerable to heat than humans because of their fur coat and because their perspiration comes out of their mouths instead of their skin. Dogs pant because that is how they sweat. Even short haired dogs are vulnerable to heat, thus it’s important to take precautions to ensure dogs don’t become too hot during the summer months. For long haired dogs, it can be a good idea to shave their fur or cut it much shorter at the beginning of the summer. It’s also important to ensure that dogs have access to water at all times, as dogs that become dehydrated are more vulnerable to heat stroke. There are also certain dog beds that can provide cooling for dogs during the summer months.

Following physical activity, even if it’s just a walk outside, dogs will need to drink a lot of water, so it’s important to always have plenty of water on hand. This is more important than all the other practices, as dogs cool themselves internally with water.

Dogs that Deserve the Best

Let’s face it, we all prefer a bed that has comfortable padding, extra pillows, and warm blankets to a cot and a sleeping bag, and dogs are much the same.  No dog wants to sleep on a cold hardwood floor when they could be relaxing in style on a designer dog bed.  There isn’t a specific characteristic that identifies one dog bed as being ‘designer’ over another, but in general the designer label is taken to mean luxurious.  Designer dog beds often have extra padding, and might include pillows or other objects.  In addition, these designer dog beds are often crafted in the image of human beds, sofas, or even lounges.  Tired pups are guaranteed to wake up more rested and stir less when sleeping in a designer dog bed that meets their needs for comfort.  There’s nothing worse than a restless dog at night!

You can find designer dog beds at most of the same places that sell standard dog beds.  Despite having the moniker of “designer”, most designer dog beds aren’t all that much more expensive than a regular dog bed.

For Dogs Who Love to Sleep on the Furniture…

People often go to great lengths to keep their dogs off the furniture in their home, but unless well trained, most dogs will still jump and sleep on the furniture when their owners aren’t looking.  Part of the reason dogs do this is because they’re attracted to the lingering scent of their owners, but it’s also because they often don’t have a place to sleep of their own.  It’s quite possible to train a dog to sleep in a specific location, and much easier than training them to keep off the furniture.  For a little bit of fun, consider a sofa pet bed.  These beds are shaped much like their larger human counterparts, but are designed to be a bit smaller for dog.  Owners can find sofa pet beds available in all different sizes for dogs ranging from Chihuahuas to Great Danes.  Most pets will take to sleeping on their own sofa after just a short while.

Make sure to place your sofa pet bed in an open location where the dog can feel like part of the family.  Dogs won’t use their pet bed if it’s off in a corner or at some location where the rest of the family seldom frequents.

Deterring Cats from Scratching

Some cats just don’t like to use scratching posts.  For whatever reason, some cats prefer to scratch on furniture rather than a scratching post or cat tower, and this can become a real nightmare for a homeowner.  Under these circumstances, purchasing pet furniture can be a great idea.  Pet furniture tends to appear just like real furniture, only smaller.  With a little bit of training, you can have your cat scratching on their pet furniture instead of the furniture in your home.  Ultimately, this saves a lot of stress for the homeowner and allows the cat to mark their territory as needed.

If your cat has already grown accustomed to scratching furniture in the home, you can remedy this situation with a spray bottle and cat repellent.  This spray causes the cat to dislike the object where the spray is applied, and will ultimately force them to scratch elsewhere… hopefully on the pet furniture!

Your Dog Deserves the Best!

We all like to think of our dogs as our children, and even if it means a bit of spoiling, our children deserve the best.  Providing your dog with comforts such as luxury dog beds, organic dog food, and more squeaky toys than they could ever want is great, but what dogs really want is attention.  Dogs are pack animals by nature, and what they want most is to be approved by the rest of the pack.  It’s important to play with your dog, exercise with your dog, and overall spend time together.  This is what helps a dog to lead a happier life.

It’s important to nurture a bond with your canine while they are a puppy, or if you’ve adopted and older dog, be sure to spend a lot of time with them in the beginning of your relationship together.  Dogs often associate one person as ‘their person’ and will want to be with that person at all times.  In addition, studies have found that dogs that share a close relationship with their owners can even lead a longer and healthier life.

Suave Furniture for Refined Canines

When it comes to choosing dog beds, you want the bed to match the personality and tastes of your refined canine.  Naturally a dog bed for a Golden Retriever would be a much different bed than one for a cute little Papillion.  You should always browse designer pet beds when selecting a bed for your dog.  If you have a Chihuahua, you might choose a cute little sofa pet bed in an adorable color like pink.  For bigger dogs, you might have a metal dog bed that will provide support for their larger frame.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to pet beds, and remember, more than the dog’s choice, it’s your choice!  Dogs can be a little bit picky about where they sleep, but in general if you like a bed and it’s comfortable for them to lie there, they will like it too!  Don’t be shy about buying something unique!

Puppies Inspire an Active Lifestyle!

When my husband came home with a little Schnauzer puppy a few months ago, I was delighted and excited all at the same time.  I named her Joslynn after my favorite aunt growing up, and Joslynn and I became best friends right away.  Unlike most puppies, Joslynn was very well behaved, she never bit, and she had potty training down in just a couple weeks.  Like any good owner, I wanted to spoil Joslynn, so I bought her all kinds of dog toys, lots of treats, and a wooden dog bed which she loves to sleep in all the time.  Joslynn and I go for a walk almost every day, and having her around has inspired me to get out of the house more often.

I just think it’s great how having a puppy around the house motivates you to be more active, and now, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without little Joslynn!

Pet Beds with Serious Style

When it comes to bedding, people can be quite picky about where they sleep.  While dogs won’t voice their unwillingness to sleep in a drab dog bed, they might show their disgust by simply not using it!  It’s important for dogs to have high style pet beds that meet their needs for comfort and fashion.  Consider wood dog beds for that rustic cowboy look, metal dog beds for the pup who lives in the now, or dog furniture for those canines who just can’t stay off the couch!

If you find a dog bed that your pet likes they will show their appreciation by sleeping in it!  If you’re having trouble deciding, recognize the locations that your pet likes to sleep and why they sleep there.  Just remember that sleeping on your bed doesn’t count because dogs are attracted to the scent of their owners!

Caring for Old Blue

therapeuticdogbeds-dogtiredpetbeds.jpgMy Australian Shepherd Blue is named as such because he’s a Blue Merle.  Blue has lived a long and full life, and at the age of 14, he’s quite ancient in dog years.  I’ve cared for Blue for the duration of his life, and I’m thankful that despite his age, he’s still quite healthy and even able to get around.  I’ve also taken steps to ensure that Blue receives adequate care as an older dog.

Blue has a therapeutic dog bed, eats senior dog food, and gets checked up at the veterinarian once every three months.  Finding therapeutic dog beds was easier than I thought it would be, and I was even able to find one the right size for Blue.  I think with attention, love, and a few precautions, medium sized dogs can live as long as Blue has with little to no complications.
